One of the things I am practicing is a tidbit I took away from the presentation just last night from Howdy Holmes. Change your routine! I'm gonna start doing things a little differently so I can adapt to change more comfortably. Howdy is right on when he says people don't like change...we're humans and thus, creatures of habit! I'm gonna change that for at least myself, if not others. Just some thoughts for you...hope they help.

Learning and Growth Opportunity – “Take measures to reach out to and build relationships with people you ordinarily wouldn’t. Chances are if you don’t feel comfortable, connected to, or affiliated with an individual, they might sense it and feel the same about you. Left unattended, these circumstances breed a lack of trust which, unfortunately, might be unfounded and based on perception only. If you make time to get to know people better, their comfort level will improve as well as your foundation of mutual trust.”

Learning Opportunity – “As a leader you are a facilitator of resources, one of which is people. Through active communication and collaboration, you are responsible for developing people's potential, providing coaching and mentoring, and managing their performance through feedback, setting of expectations, and accountability. If your team follows you because they have to, not because they want to, then you are functioning as the boss and not a leader. Be a facilitator, a teacher, a trainer, a mentor, and you will realize greater human potential. While time consuming, understand that managing is not micromanaging, and it’s your job as a leader.”

Learning Opportunity – “Even the best intentions can and will be misunderstood without proactive and clear communication of your intention. Make sure that you identify the right people to collaborate with and that they understand your perspective, opinion, or action taken. Without this critical information, people will resort to being cynical or judgmental of you, and you risk being misunderstood or wrongly convicted. Conversely, don’t be hypocritical by judging others by their behavior, versus understanding their intentions. Don’t be so quick to jump to judgment before you have taken time to collaborate and ask strategic questions so you understand first, and then draw your conclusion on their behavior or comments. Remember, if you want to be understood, take time to understand others.”
